Our Permanent Residents

On a vacation at Ferienhaus Feuerzauber, we promise you pure nature! Even our flora and fauna are completely fired up about it: while fire lilies bloom in the garden, a family of fire salamanders has settled in among the rocks and tree roots. They belong with our three holiday homes the way the forest belongs to Thuringia, just black and yellow (or orange) instead of green. Let's call them Lilly & Prometheus. They feast on earthworms, snails, and insects, and usually hunt at night.

Ancient natural philosophers believed the fire salamander lives within fire itself and is therefore invulnerable, almost a magical creature. No wonder it chose to settle, of all places, right here at our Feuerzauber. Lilly & Prometheus love to show themselves after a warm summer rain or at dusk, when they slowly crawl out of the shadows. Don't be startled, they are our native residents.

Caution: The yellow or orange spots are a sign that these little amphibians are toxic, so please don't touch them or be sure to wash your hands afterward if you do. And your dog really shouldn't go carrying one around in his mouth.
